Visit to Kinyara School Uganda
During February 2009 half term Miss Fordham and I travelled to Masindi in North West Uganda to Kinyara Secondary School – our partner school. This was the first time that either of us had visited Africa and our 7 day trip gave us the opportunity to work with our Ugandan colleagues in their school, to compare and contrast our school systems, to understand the issues that they face and more importantly to plan for the future sustainability of our partnership.
For me it was a truly inspirational experience – I realised that despite the many obvious physical differences that exist between our schools, we are both aware of the issues young people experience as they grow up and are anxious to give our students the best possible opportunities to achieve successful outcomes. The partnership has 2 more years of funding but we are working hard to ensure that the link becomes well and truly sustainable so that all of our students in Masindi and in Bristol gain a broader understanding of our Global community.
You will be hearing much more about the project in the future. We will be setting up a Kinyara group to support the link – this will NOT be for fundraising but for supporting and strengthening our relationship. We hope that the group will include staff, students and parents. If you would like more information about this then please do get in touch with me at school.

BBC School Report
A group of year 9 students became news reporters for the day on 25th March.
Kieran Lee White, Kieran Hawker, Jordan Cole , James Broderick, Sophie White and Zoe Oxenham worked with the Bristol Rovers Study Centre to create news reports which were posted on the BBC News website. They interviewed two Rovers players about their diet and the groundsman about the difficulties of providing a playing area for rugby and football. Geoff Twentyman, ex -Rovers player and now local BBC Sports Editor dropped in to the study centre and was interviewed about his career.
